ELECTION DAY 2008
I originally posted this last Tuesday on my MySpace blog, but I'd like to share it here with all of you.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seeing as I have only been able to legally vote for a president twice in my life thus far, I'm still barraged by personal confusion of the whole situation. Has voting for a candidate always been this mind fuckingly hallow, fake, and seemingly silly?
Are we voting for a celebrity reality show on FOX network? This election has been a sketch not even worthy of a half assed SNL skit that lasted a few months too long. You are now watching MADtv. These characters, I apologize, these CANDIDATES, are walking cliches.
The supporters of these candidates are a very interesting bunch also. Walking trash sporting shirts purchased at corner stores in shitty parts of town. "Tell yo' mama to vote Obama!" Are you fucking kidding me? Way to make a professional look like a ghetto superstar. The McCain supporters are a quiet little group, now aren't they? It reminds me of a cocaine addicted individual. You know they do it, but they never brag about in front of others. They know it may be wrong, but remain enclosed in the closets of the mind.
Let's talk candidates.
John McCain is your calm, almost in a creepy down syndrome-esque manner, old man you wished was your rich great uncle. He shares the same views as our current leader, in which is hated by people that previously supported him. His odd little twitches and lips that seem not to move when he speaks leaves me feeling unsettled and awkward. Yes he was a POW. Yes he served and protected our country. LOTS HAVE. He pairs with a milf from Alaska that shoots fucking black bears for sport? Are Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthou an influence here? This is a silly gimmick, and nothing more. Sarah Palin is eye candy, plain and simple.
I am well aware that there are many gimmicks relevant here. Presidential elections are no more than a team of over-paid people spending entirely too much money, to whore out one man's (or woman's) image for the masses to swallow up like a free sandwich given to a hobo.
Barack CHANGE Obama also has his CHANGE down sides as CHANGE well. The man is a charismatic, articulate, strong presence where he goes, but will he make a good leader? It's not a matter of black and white (opposites of interests, not a racial comparison), it's a matter of just playing these people like fools. It isn't hard to compile strategics in the sense of "Folks hated these views from Dubya, so I'll spin the opposite." You take the bad, you promise the good, it's only ear pleasing. We want results. Change... change... change... change? Is that hobo we gave a sandwich asking us for loose change now?
Hillary is worth mentioning I suppose. A woman? Slick Willy's wifey? Really? Who knows... she could have been an excellent leader for us, but we will not see those results this upcoming election.
People's decisions are torn this time around. What about the dirt poor racist voters? Who is their choice? When Hillary was still in it to win it, people were casting her off because she is a woman. People are STILL casting Barack Obama off because he is black. I don't know who is worse, the sexists, the racists, or the plain ignorant who are voting blindly because they are influenced by sources other than their own thoughts.
You may not like black people.
You may not like white people.
You may not like women.
You may not like Republicans.
You may not like Democrats.
All I ask is that you vote with your brain, assuming you have one that is functional.
Oh, what about me? Who did I vote for?
Well, I don't like bald people.... so I voted Obama.
