Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Hannah's been here all week, taking up my time. This weekend we're heading out to the great state of Indiana to see all my relatives. I'm hoping maybe they'll let us sleep in the same bed, but then again, it's my relatives. I'll be given the answer as soon as we show up and ask, "where do we put our suitcases?"
I'm currently being pummeled by my most recent musical acquisition. I picked it up at the post office 20 minutes ago. 50 minutes of slowmetal, sludgy, bombstring mayhem by a band called Floor. This band can produce some of the lowest most gutteral feedback you've ever heard and they don't even have a bassplayer. They just tune the guitars so low the E string just kinda hangs their. "Downtuning as a science." I'm currently 5 minutes into the 18 minute title track "Dove" and have yet to hear a vocal. The first 5 tracks are 4 minutes and under. The 6th track is 18 minutes, and the 7th track is 15 minutes.
Floor is this sludge band from Florida that's been around like 11 or 12 years, but never did much recording. They released their first album about a year and a half ago, which I bought and loved. Recently I discovered that in 1994 they recorded an album that was just never released. They just hid it. But about a month ago it was in fact just released. That's what I'm listening to now. Interestingly, pieces of a song on the older album from 1994 were used to create a song on the newer album. The older version was called Figure It Out and the newer version is called Figured Out.
My friend Brian who introduced me to floor has seen them play. He said they were so loud, pieces of tiles from the ceiling of the little basement where they were playing were falling all over everyone. Fucking crazy. He also said the drummers toms were so big they looked like bass drums.
