So...
Allen Planz never made it. Fuckin' rain. Apparently he got to northern Jersey and the car in front of him hydroplaned and spun, meanwhile the radio is screaming that NJ is under a flood watch or warning or something unpleasant of that nature. So he turned around and went home.
He sent Rich, the host of the poetry reading, an email but Rich didn't get it until about a half an hour before the reading was going to start. Having corresponded with him a bit myself, I know that his emails tend to be lean worded and cryptic (though pleasant). In this case the last line of the email said something about Poets and Writers, Inc. would be willing to put up a couple hundred bucks.
I don't know what that sentence means. Neither does Rich, really, but Rich took it to mean that Planz was insinuating he wasn't getting paid enough, and that he COULD have braved the flood for a bit more dinero.
So....Rich was pissed. And knowing him as I do, he was upset for several reasons: he doesn't like plans changing on short notice (unless he does the changing), and he hates it when people back out of confirmed arrangements (even for legit reasons). And then there's the aforementioned monetary "issue" which I'm pretty sure is just Rich's excessive wariness for taking shit, and thus willingness to jump to conclusions without even attempting to gather more evidence.
Planz said in the email he was willing to reschedule, so I told Rich to figure out what Mr. Planz meant by that last sentence before writing him off as a greedy stuckup asshole.
*headache*
On the upside a ton of people came, and afterwards Rich's Uncle-in-Law was buying everybody drinks. I only had a couple because I still had heat transfer homework to do when I got back.
So it was a frustrating yet still fun evening...
I miss Hannah.
