For those of you who are unaware....Camper Van Beethoven is one of the greatest bands ever!
We headed down to Chicago and I actually went right to the Vic Theatre. I didn't get lost at all. This is surprising since I had never been there and I didn't use any directions, but I knew generally where it was and I have spent a lot of time in that area.
We stopped at a place called Duck Walk (on Belmont, between Halsted and Sheffield, if I remember right) and had some damn fine Thai food before the show.
Cracker was great. I had seen them twice before and they've always been good. They played some songs I didn't know, but hey, I haven't gotten the newest album yet.
Then Camper Van Beethoven came on (which really meant just swapping out the lead guitar player and adding a violinist). It was so great. I really thought I would never get to see them play. I was 13 or 14 when their final album came out and then they broke up; thank God for reunion tours. They didn't play all of the songs that I wanted to hear, but no band has ever done that. They did, however, play many of my favorites and I was damn fucking happy with the show.
Soon I have to head off to work and then I'll probably end up at the bar tonight. Tomorrow should be fun, many of the SGKazoo out-of-towners are coming into town and we'll all hang out and have a great time.
