so, week 1 of my new job at the homeless shelter was challenging, but not too bad. There's some stress and emotionality (of the clients and the nature of the work), but mostly, due to working swing shift, it's more boredom than anything else. But I feel like I'm working with competent people, and though I'm getting a lot more OJT than I thought I would, I feel like I'm learning my way and I'm handling it. The major problem is that we're understaffed and underfunded, being a non-profit social services org, so most of my shift there's only one other staff person in the whole building. That obviously puts a lot of pressure on me, since I don't really know what I'm doing yet. But the boss says they'll be hiring more people, so the staffing issues should work themselves out soon. Of course, my coworkers are pretty cynical about that ....
Just one more week of that, then Burning Man! yay!
and I moved into my new apartment this weekend, it's a little dirtier, in a noisier, rougher part of town than I thought at first, but my roommates seem nice (the girl of the bunch is 28, Hungarian, and absolutely gorgeous.... *swoon*) and I have a good feeling about it.
