For those of you Brisbanites who don't know - December 2nd will be the last ever show at the HMB Basement in the Queen St. Mall. Club 299 has bought it out and will be turning it into a R&B/Dance club (because another one of those is exactly what this city needs ). It fucking sucks, but it'll be going out with a bang on the 2nd, with some awesome Brisbane metal bands sharing the stage - come out, enjoy some sweet bands, drink some cheap booze, and pay your last respects to one of the best venues our fair city has ever had. Here's the flyer:
Work is starting to worry me. Somehow, the company just plain forgot to advertise our store on any level which logically lead to a really, really shitty opening. Corporate was predicting that we'd get $20,000 on the first day, and instead we made a total of $10,000 in the first three. Right now this means that I'm only working twelve hours a week, so I hope things pick up, or else I'll be stuck with shitty hours - or, if the store is a failure and shuts down, no job at all. So, here's me doing my part: Come to The Reject Shop, located in the Queen St. Mall, Brisbane, right under Toyworld and across the street from the Casino. We sell absurdly cheap shit of nearly every variety, from glassware to gardening to lollies and lots more. Despite having the most unfortunate name for any retailer I've ever come across, we do have our fair share of good merchandise, and if you do drop by, be sure to say hi!
Other than job stuff, this week was good - I paid back all my debts to various friends minus $25 I owe a friend for two shirts he's selling me. This, on top of me being owed $44 by one of my housemates, means I'm finally ahead. And last night I went to Dale's 21st on the Sunny Coast, showed up high and drunk (and generally enjoying life), and got even more drunk for really cheap. Dale's band played, and after a while I got convinced to grab the guitar and play something - which was a really sloppy debut performance of Tonight, my new mellow song. It reminded me of why I have a rule of not taking anything before playing shows, but it was still lots of fun. Usually, I'd say trying to have any fun on the Sunshine Coast is a losing option, but this time proved me otherwise. It's also gotten me in the mood to write more songs for this currently unnamed project and start playing some goddamn shows. Over a year of not playing any gigs has taught me that if I don't make it happen, nobody will, so keep your ears open, friends.
