We were in one of my favourite Bristol pubs and we ordered a cheese sandwich and chips. We got a chicken sandwich, so I took it back and politely asked the barman to rectify it.
We got a cheese sandwich back but on biting into my half, I noticed a piece of the chicken that had obviously not been removed.
I was a tad annoyed. Firstly there's the fact that I'm veggie and it's important to me. I'm not going to rant - obviously there is no way the bar staff or chef could know I'm veggie, so that's my problem not theirs.
Regardless of that fact, if they messed up my order, I would normally expect them to make a new order from scratch, if only for reasons of hygiene. I mean, if they're prepared to re-use food that gets sent back, what else are they cutting corners on?
Pinklet complained to the assistant manager as I was too annoyed at the time. He basically gave her the money back for the sandwich and said he'd shouted at the chef (we heard nothing,). He also said the manager was too busy to talk to us. Too busy.
In my world, which some might say is rose-tinted, I expect the manager to talk to me. I expect them to reprimand the chef and I expect an apology. I don't particularly care about the money, provided I am treated well if something goes wrong.
Suffice to say I will never eat in there again and I'm not sure I'll ever drink in there. It's a shame.
So, this week has been really busy at work as the internet manager has been on holiday so I've been doing lots of web related stuff in addition to my normal role as IT monkey. I've been preparing and sending out promotional emails and had to do a fair bit of figuring out how several of our website's back ends work. He's off this week too and apparently one of the emails I sent out last week has been generating a lot of orders so it's going to be a busy week, which is great except - a)The internet manager is still going to be away as I mentioned and - b) Pinklet is going to Glastonbury for the week, meaning the call centre will be down one valuable member and also a couple of the guys from the warehouse are going too so it's going to be generally bedlam.
Work rant:
I've had several calls from agencies about other work, but nothing that has lead to an interview yet. Ideally I'd like to go freelance, doing web design and illustration, but I'll need some money behind me to do that and there's no way I'll be able to start saving before next year really, but it's something to work toward.
I've almost finished my first website. OK, so it's not my first website by a long shot, but it's the first hand coded site I've done using web standards. I'm pretty pleased with it, (for now,) the graphics look pretty decent if I do say so myself and the code is ok - it validates as XHTML strict anyway! A few tweaks to do then it's onto the next project.
Beside that, we've been trying to get more stuff done for the wedding, which has slowed a little in pace. It needs to pick up again as it's about 3 & 1/2 months now until we do the thing.
I also have a couple of art projects on the go, which I never have much time to do at present, so no updates to show, although for some reason my doodlings never get much feedback on here for the most part. Wrong crowd?
Other than that I got Fallout 3, which so far is awesome. I'm not a massive RPG player - I bought Oblivion for 5 and didn't get very far in. I played WOW for about 3 goes during the free month and I played a bit of Guild Wars for about 2-3 months. Previously KOTOR gripped my attention for a while but I never quite got the hang of the stop-start combat mechanics. The VATS system in Fallout 3 is similar, but so much more smoothly done. I think the game being more Sci-Fi than fantasy helps with me too. I prefer tech to pointy ears (Star Trek movies aside,).
We watched Twilight this evening, mainly to see what all the fuss was about. It was pretty good. I can see why it's become a phenomenon. Edward is an immortal Mr. D'arcy for a new generation.
So, tell me about something you've seen/read/played that you enjoyed recently.
I'm currently keeping my phone switched off - as work haven't caught on that I am not going back. They don't have my number - but some of my work collegues do - so I get random texts and phone calls.
I told work I was going to try and get to Turkey to see my family - so where on earth do they think I am?! Idiots.
