So... yesterday's journal was full of rage and frustration. I was just sure that Waylon was going to come home without the damn lunchbox and that I'd have to hold myself back but I was pleasantly surprised.
He got off the bus, ran across the street, and before he even got to our house was telling me he brought his lunch box and knew where his watch was in his room!!!!
I told him that all he had to do was finish the paragraph and that he could be ungrounded and he went right in and busted it out. Later on we had a talk about how sometimes his dad and I get angry and say things that we don't really mean. I told him that I'm not really disappointed in his first week at school but that I was really frustrated by his forgetfullness.
I explained that because he's so bright, kind and helpful that I have the bar set really high and that when he forgot to bring his stuff home two days in a row and then lost his brand new watch it was really disappointing. He knows that we love him and are proud of him... but I also wanted him to know that there are consequences to his actions. If he doesn't take those things seriously then we will start taking things away.

Mini house party at hypnogogic's Saturday night? Free music and cheap liquor if we bring our own. What do you think?

Every parent has those kinds of frustrations. You can tell the good parents by how they act after the fact. And they act just like you did. It's the parents who never bother to explain that are the problem. I can tell you are a good mom. And trust me. I know a lot about bad parenting. I see the results of it all the time. I am just glad there are good parents out there to keep me from getting too jaded.
