Ephesians, 4:29
Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.
Fuck that!
______
Hellish.
Favorite destination as a child, through a forest now in flame. My auntie's house. Westbank.
In a flat spin. In a flat spin since my uncle's passing. There in retirement from the forces decades past.
Uncle passed three years now. A nuclear weapons training certificate hangs still in the den. Love the bomb and handle it.
My dad's favorite drinking buddy.
______
Heart is heavy. So alone. My aunt and I exchange few words. Perched on the edge of the couch.
The last of the old folks. Now in her eighties. And I am no longer a child. A different time.
A time of her childhood. An age of courtesy. Talks fondly of life on the farm. Joy of simple pleasures.
Barn dances. Dad's fiddle. The drinking. How two men could raise so much hell.
And my mom. An angel. Makes the save.
