So, my friend Dan calls me last night around midnight to invite me to breakfast. I was to call around seven to wake him up....aaaand of course, being all tired, he decides to cancel on me. Pffft.
I saw the last half of the movie '1984' this morning. I had never seen, nor had I read the book. Needless to say, I shall read it post haste. Intriguing imagery, not to mention a fucking terrifying plot.
If you've never read the book or seen the film, my apologies, but I'm about to ruin a particular scene for you. If this is the case, you need not read further. The main character and his lover have been detained at this point, caught in the act of having sex.. or about to, anyway. He is tortured in the most inhumane ways. The last straw, though, is when they use his worst fear against him. He is, in fact, so terrified that he screams and begs for mercy, and begs that they inflict such tortures on his lover instead of him.
That is, perhaps, my worst nightmare. That anyone who questions the government, or chooses to live a different way would be tortured so.
Which again leads me to my next topic; the state of our government. I am thoroughly upset with the fact that Americans appear to be such masochists. How could you POSSIBLY think things are going WELL? Unfuckingbelievable.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I find it entirely ironic that one of the pivotal issues in this campaign was gay marriage, and yet Americans are all for being fucked in the ass for ANOTHER four years.
And the war? Question it or our president, and suddenly, you're unpatriotic. Amazing. Don't get me wrong. I support our troops. I do NOT however support the reason they're there, nor the greedy motherfucker who sent them there.
Interesting quote, by the way :
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials
Interesting that THIS APPLIES TO WHAT IS GOING ON NOW.
The draft? FUCK THAT. Seriously. How people could even DENY that's what Bush has in store. There is a 'back door draft' going on right fucking now. A fellow in California.. eight year veteran. Volunteered for another year of service in the National Guard. Went to Iraq, served his term. Was sent home. Now.. they are trying to send him BACK to Iraq at the end of November until fucking spring of 2006. WHAT THE FUCK?! By the way.. what's the incentive to actually sign up for the military services if you're essentially held hostage beyond your term.
There's something greatly disturbing about the draft, I feel. From my understanding, if you got a tattoo while in the military, they could prosecute you for defacing government property if they WANTED TO. Now granted.. they wouldn't, most likely.. but the point is.. GOVERNMENT PROPERTY. The idea that they could just yank that from under you when you didn't SIGN IT OVER.. entirely against your will? That your own body could be used as GOVERNMENT PROPERTY to inflict war.. even better.. war that you very possibly don't believe in. Fucking ludicrous.
Ugh. Done for now.

As a side note, as of today, Airlines have been REQUIRED to turn over ALL enployee and CUSTOMER information to the government for inspection, and the info must regularly be reported. It's not limited to names, locations, etc, WHAT FOODS ARE EATEN must be turned over as well (because a Muslim flying might not eat this or that)....it will be cross checked with the 100,00+ strong "No Fly List" which bars anyone with their name-JUST THE SAME NAME-on the list from flying, such as a Congressman, or Cat Stevens-they're both unable to fly because their name is on the list. Not neccesarily THEM, but the NAME is listed. It will also be cross checked with "an undisclosed list of known terror suspects and affiliates".
Well enough crying. I'll be home soon to get Booty BOOTY WOO HOO......
