Oh, I almost forgot, I've also adopted a mallard duckling I was in my backyard a few weeks ago when I noticed one of my cats acting kinda funny over in a corner of the patio area. All of a sudden I noticed something start kinda flopping around. I immediately scared my cat off and that's when I saw what it was she had found, a 2 week old baby duck! Luckily the little guy (or girl, still too early to tell) was completely uninjured, but after searching the entire neighborhood and two near by ponds I could not find his mother. I'm assuming my cat stole him from his mother and brought him over the fence, but I have no idea where from.
Okay, so here's the kicker! I call up the local wildlife rehab center and they're not taking waterfowl but they give me the number to a place that does, so I give that place a call just to find that they're not taking any new patients due to lack of funding. Both of these places make me aware of the fact that it's against the law to keep this animal since it's a native species, but what the hell am I supposed to do, leave him out to die? Fuck that! I hung up the phone and got him set up in a nice cozy box then got to work researching how to raise him myself.
Long story short, here he is when I first found him 2 weeks ago, swimming in a small ziploc container...
And here he is now, more than triple that size, kick'n it with me on my bed LOL
Yeah, he's cute, but he's an ornery little bugger! LOL
