San Diego and LA were good, it was a necessary and well-earned break from my routine, and Mrs. Reliable was glad to see me relax for five minutes. If it weren't for her arranging the getaway, I'd still be whining about how much I need a break.
I just read an article that talked about a Ford dealer in South Carolina who, in a radio ad, went in a tirade about people in the US buying imported cars (like myself and most people I know), that it's somehow undermining the economy in this country. "All you people that buy all your Toyotas and send that money to Japan, you know, when you don't have a job to make your Toyota car payment, don't come crying to me," Welch says in the ad. "All those cars are rice ready. They're not road ready."
Talk about a bullshit, completely retarded statement....
The big three automakers in this country -GM, Ford and Chrysler, as well as their subsidiaries have been producing cars that are such garbage, and so far beneath what can be bought from one of several imported automakers, for, in many cases, LESS money than what US automakers are passing as "great American engineering". It's a lie, as so much of what people in this country are told every day, about so many products and processes, when it's so far removed from truth that only the truly ignorant or fascist still buy as anything but a fllthy lie. Junk is junk.
For anyone who's bought a domestically produced car in the last several years, you've been ripped off. You've paid top dollar for a car that's started falling apart in the first 30,000 miles, that has required service more frequently, for more money, and NOTHING covered under warranty, taking more of your hard earned money than the gas companies have recently. The oil crunch is another engineered lie, one that we'll talk about later.
The bottom line is that educated, well-informed people would buy domestically built cars, electronics and anything else that is up to par, but American companies build crap. The capitalist mindset dictates that you give less, charge more and perpetuate that mindset year after year, all the while ignoring what's necessary to ensure that what it takes to keep people buying your product is that those same people don't feel like they're being conspired against. That requires the big three to go the way of the DeLorean.
See you bastards on the flipside, I love my European-built car. "Buy American" would be a good idea, if it weren't so fucking rediculous.
*** for clarity, I'm talking about the big three specifically.

Glad you had a nice break. It was awesome seeing you the other day - I don't see you two nearly enough!
On that note I am having a birthday party on Saturday. I'd love it if you came!
