God hates a hypocrite.
This weekend, Christians celebrate what is considered the holiest day in Christianity, Easter Sunday. And right on time a juicy scandal coming out of the Vatican about how the current Pope and many other heads of the Catholic Church were aware of far more cases of molestations and child abuse by priests for much longer than had previously been reported. Some of the church leaders are saying its the fault of homosexuality and the media influenced by Satan, because none of their priests are pedophiles.
Like most Christians and many former Christians, I am offended by what humans and their churches have done to fuck-up what was taught to us by a really good man. Jesus Christ. Now I hate it when people preach, so Im not about to, but I have many fiends who follow a more Gothic lifestyle and while they are not Satanists, they have told me that they hate God and Jesus and dont care what happens to them after they die. I think what they really hate is the same thing I do. Organized Religion. And the reason I hate Organized Religion is the hypocrisy.
Here are some examples of the hypocrisy that really pisses me off. If you dont believe me you can Google it. Thankfully not every Christian is this way, just the many bad ones.
Violence: In the 2,000 years since Jesus lived, and taught us to avoid and prevent violence and suffering at all costs, millions of people have died in the name of religion, from the crusades, to the Spanish Inquisition, to modern day Christian Militia, man has been eager to take a swing at his enemy in the name of Christ. Even as you read this, there are Christian Fundamentalists that are doing what they can to get Israel to start a war with its Arab neighbors to bring about what they consider the pre-ordained Armageddon. They plan to sit back while the Muslims and Jews wipe each other out and as soon as the radiation from the nukes drops to a safe level, go in and take over the Holy Lands and make it a Christian Garden of Eden. Rifle scopes purchased by the U.S. Department of defense have pro-Christian scriptures stamped into the metal.
Love the fetus hate the child: The unyielding resistance to other forms of birth control as well as the billions of dollars and millions of hours spent trying to stop abortions could be better spent adopting unwanted children and improving education and the social situation so that almost all abortions would be unnecessary and those that are would be safe and without shame.
Money and Power: Jesus knew when he threw the merchants out of the temple that money and religion are bad, but usually lucrative bedfellows. Religion is a multi-billion dollar industry, and while too few churches actually do help the needy, the vast majority of money taken in by the bigger, Corporate Style churches goes to opulent lifestyles of their leaders and aggressive growth projects to take in more money. One of the largest landowners in New York City, The Catholic Church, pays no property taxes. Neither do almost every other church in this country on not only the property and other assets they hold, but the money they take in during services, from TV shows like the 700 Club and on the internet. And to add insult to injury contributors get to write off most of the value of their donations from their personal taxes, further decreasing the amount of money governments can take in to pay for things we all need. Fundamentalist Christian churches have been making increasingly deeper and wider inroads into the very core of the all 3 branches of our government. Making huge Faith Based monetary gifts to buy power from not only members of congress, but the president and the Supreme Court, (Which recently said officially, Its OK for them to do that as much as they want along with any corporation or union)
Sex: It is widely accepted that one of Jesus closest and most influential friends was a prostitute named Mary Magdalene, whom Jesus saved from being stoned to death. But instead of Christianity recognizing from the start, the natural importance of sex in our lives, sex has become something dirty to be ashamed of. The puritans brought some mighty bad mojo to the native people of the new world (along with many diseases that ravaged unresisted among the indigenous people for centuries). The state that now buys the most porn per capita is the same state that has the highest concentration of members of a church that is usually associated with family values and modesty, Utah.
In the early days of the Catholic Church, the original reason the Pope ordered that priests not marry and remain celibate was not to emulate the chaste life that Christ led, but so that there would be no heirs to inherit the wealth that many popular priests acquired during their lives of service with little personal expenses. Celibacy is unnatural and harmful and leads to abuses and secrets, neither of which is good for man nor church.
If you think Im picking on the Catholic Church without justification, Im not. I am a Catholic and I hate what my church and most other Organized Religions have become.
