Today, I turn 53. I have never dreaded turning another year, as some people do. I feel that I have earned every candle on my cake and have learned alot along the way. I still feel as young as I did when I was 18. I have no health problems that I know of and still look at the world through optimistic eyes.
I do find, now that I am getting older that I value my time a lot more, and no longer feel like I need to do everything for fear of missing out on an experience. My motto now is quality over quantity. I now would choose a smaller meal over a more filling meal, if the the food tastes excellent. If I cant listen to the music or radio station I want, I wont listen to anything. I'm also thinking a lot about what it takes to let go of things. Not "Give up"! There's a big difference! -Letting go of things is like taking a toy boat to a river and setting it to sail down stream. Giving up is taking the boat to the river and sinking it on the shore. The act of letting things go, I am finding has some surprising benefits, Just as there is quality in watching the boat go down the river away from you, there is something to be gained by choosing to simplify one's life. It frees our hands to hold onto those things that we truly cherish, at least until we are ready to let go of them.
I also feel extremely blessed by having the family and friends that I have. I have worked with and met some amazing people over the years and some people are worth "keeping" and some people just have to be "Let go".
As I face another Birthday I am reminded of the saying "Considering the only other alternative, getting older is not too bad".
Have a wonderful day, everybody!
