So we've got a moving set about 99% set in stone. We pick up the truck on August 30th, fill it, and take off the next morning. Friday, August 31, will be our last day living in CA (in theory, if the townhouses have an available unit). And.... drum roll...
I have a job!!! Well, a promised job anyway.
I applied at PetSmart for a grooming position last night after talking to the salon manager, and the store manager called me at 10AM today asking when I'll be in Ohio so he can "bring me on board". Sweet. Of course, I gotta do an interview, a drug test, and a technical (grooming a dog in person), but I don't think those will be an issue. I'm nervous about the technical, but I've seen some of PS's grooming academy students, and I think my quality is pretty good in comparison. I think, so long as I don't chop off a dog's leg, I'll pass just fine. I need to get my gear sharpened and cleaned though, preferrably before I leave.
Tom also has numbers of people to call to send his resume in to. He talked to the contracting firm that does the temp-to-hire contracting for Nationwide Ins., and he has to fax Ohio his resume tomorrow. In talking with the San Diego rep, he's fairly certain he's got what it takes to land this job.
But in any event, we now have a 90% possibility of income. Unfortunately not a lot of places will hire you before you move, unless you've got a degree and you're in demand. Thankfully we'll have money for first month's, final bills here, and gasp, groceries. Tom's parents are helping us get a truck to get moved, Brandon's flying down to help us get across country (we did decide to move ourselves and save three grand, but I'm hiring my bro for help) and get us unpacked, and we'll have friendly support there to cook us foodstuffs if we need it.
It's a positive step. A very nerve-wracking, stressful, scary positive step, but we're going in the right direction. Soon, about two years or so, we'll have our cozy house. Then we are so done moving for a long time
EDIT: Looks like they have a unit, but not available until 9/7. So maybe we'll hang here for a few days, or we'll head out and just take our time and see America. Decisions Decisions... oh! And Jess might be coming along too.
