This is how we celebrate the beginning of the end of Winter and the start of the coming of Spring in the village where I live... A procession led by druids, accompanied by several bands of drummers, makes its way from the centre of the village to the festival site where the crowd is greeted by a group of fire spinners. Jack Frost and his entourage then emerge to represent Winter and after a short time the Green Man appears to represent Spring. A stand-off ensues, but the Green Man eventually drives away Jack Frost to ensure the beginning of a new cycle of growth. The whole thing is accompanied by 'human Catherine wheels', fire sculptures, fireworks and loud 'encouragement' from the crowd. It's a fantastic community event and I'm very happy to be part of the small team that makes it happen.
