I've had an apartment here in Seattle for a week and a half or so. When I got to Seattle my first thought was "I think I will keep it" and I have done so. I have not had a steady place to live for around 9 months. I have trouble believing I am the same guy who slept on rooftops and on couches for so long. I miss Wisconsin, in a way. I don't get free coffee anymore, I don't get free food anymore, I don't know where to go to get a pound, I don't know where to get any pills, I don't know every bartender by first name, I don't ride the bus for free, in fact, there isn't any nepotism of any kind. I wait in line.
I wake up. I make coffee. I read the newspaper. I drink tea. I drink coffee. I drink tea. I email my lawyer. I give my landlord eleven hundred and thirty dollars. I open a new checking account. I fill out forms to get a free credit report and get a new passport before October. I make little to do lists.

My bedroom has a rather nice futon mattress I was given, 3 small rugs and 15 maps from national geographic I found on the ground. The Caspian region. Antarctica. Great Britain and Ireland. The Ancient Mediterranean. Ancient Egypt. The Balkans. It's spartan. I like my room. Nice view, more sunlight than any other room in the house.
I open the windows and the curtain and the windows and the curtains and let the breeze in and let the sun in and let it in, I let the sun in, I let the sunlight in. I open the doors and the windows and all the windows all the windows open.
I do the dishes. I do laundry. I buy beer.
I get on the bus. I get off the bus. I get on the bus.

I email old friends. I email new friends.
I don't go to the bar. I don't go out to eat. I put the lids on the trash bin. I sort the recycling.
I do the dishes. I tidy the kitchen.
I watch The Arts Channel. I watch Opera, I watch Classical composers, I watch Ballet. I watch Cartoons. I watch C-Span. I watch C-Span 2. I watch TV. I watch TV. The TV. I watch TV.
There must be a lot of money in Erections and Piss, because all television commercials are for erections and piss and bad movies.
I read Tolstoy, I read Guns Germs and Steel, I read the newspaper.
I buy socks. I had only owned two pairs of socks for months and months. I threw those out. There is nothing quite as bliss full as new socks. My feet are so happy.
I watch Opera and I drink wine.
I have roommates but they just moved in yesterday. I am up to my ears in organic peaches and plums and donut peaches and pluots and organic fruit.
I clean the bathroom. I clean the bathroom. I do laundry. I read the newspaper. I tidy up the kitchen. I do the dishes.
I walk to the park I walk to the park I walk to the park I walk to the park.
I watch Opera and I listen to the woman sing and I say "Yes, I understand".
Does this mean that it is over?
I let it in. I let the sunlight in. I let the breeze in. The breeze comes in. It comes in. I let the breeze in.

Excellent entry, spot on, like a great big haiku. And I cannot but concur when it comes to your sock feelings.
