So last night I stopped at everyone's favorite place...Wal-Mart to get some shit before I fly back to NY. Before I walk inside I hear two men arguing a parking spot in front of me over a flag so I roll down the windows and listen for a bit. Both men appeared to be late 30's and by the looks of the stickers on the mans truck, the guy being "attacked" is or was a Marine.
We will call the "attacker" Confused Man or CM. So I hear CM getting upset over two stickers the Marine had on his rear window, one being an American Flag that happened to be upside down and the other was an outline of a rifle with the text "Come and Take It" under it, he was saying thats greatly disrespectful to our country and he should be ashamed of himself. The Marine quickly reminded him of his service to this country and his right to display whatever the fuck it is he wanted to on his truck. CM appeared to be out matched and retreated in anger like a little puppy who just pissed on the floor. I then walked over to the Marine who I now know as SSGT. Stafford and thanked him for his service and carried on with my original plan.
For those who aren't in the know: A flag flown upside down is NOT a sign of disrespect, its an international sign of distress. This goes for any flag, not just the US.
Another thing that annoys me is when people say "oh that flag is on backwards" meaning the flag I have attached to the right shoulder of my jacket is displayed incorrectly. The "rule" for displaying flags on shoulders is they have to be shown with the stars facing forward (basically reversed from normal) or "attacking forward" as its called. I've been told on more than one occasion that I have it on backwards...which is fucking stupid.
