I just discovered the original sketch of my namesake:
I also just bought a HELLA-cool old Polaroid SX-70 camera:
Other than that, there's a nice (albeit intensely creepy) editorial in this week's Time magazine about the expansion of Executive power by the Bush administration via the extensive use of 'signing statements.' I'd never heard of 'em until today, when Hedy told me to peruse the editorial. As it turns out, signing statements are rather ridiculous and totally offensive to democratic ideals - just like most of the legal freakiness coming outta Washington nowadays. What they do is to allow the President to sign bills while including additional commentary that clarifies the Executive's understanding of the new law. What Bush has done with them, however, has basically been to amend the new legislation to allow his office to ignore their instructions. The editorial makes the case that such widespread misuse of these statements amounts to the Presidency becoming above the law - much like the monarchy we jilted back in '76.
If you'd like to read it, you can find it here.
I guess what I really want to say is that I just can't take much more of these GOP fuckwads (and their contemptible DNC competitors)... As an active, voting American constituent, I'm furious, heartbroken, verklempt, addled, bereaved - what have you. The whole of our government is in the shitter, folks - and, believe you me:
this shitter's full.
