One of the things I do that I mention a lot to others is that I talk to myself openly. I don’t have full on conversations, of course. But I do tend to think aloud a lot of the time. It throws things out on the table. Verbalizing thoughts tends to make them more concrete for me. So when I suggest someone to talk to themselves, it is usually in terms of having a hard time with decision making or being sure of one’s feelings.
Along with that, I tend to exclaim or use onomatopoeia very often to de-stress. Sometimes I am even apt to go hiking up the mountain to let things out verbally. And it does help with the release of energy :) I remember I was walking up a busy road where my boss happened to be around the crossroad. He had come from the opposite direction, and I had went “aaaaaaagh,” right at the moment he was turning the corner. He gave me the thumbs up, because he is a “sound effects” guy too. But I still laugh every time I hear him do a huge theatrical sigh just for the kick of it.
I know it sounds weird, just try it. I found those things help when you need an easy stress gate. You can’t always get away from what you need to deal with.
