Oh, I need a vacation.
Wednesday the 26th I will once again make my yearly trek into the wilderness of Rainier National Park (home of the fabled and magical Rainier Beer mountain spring) to visit family and celebrate the eating of the turkey. Have I mentioned that Thanksgiving is my absolute, number one, super favorite holiday? You can have all the rest, just give me a week off for Thanksgiving/Turkey Coma. Not to mention, I get to see my mother's family, who I rarely get to see. Love them.
In other news, my own capacity for intelligence has once again caught me off guard. I can't believe I got a B on my latest cell bio test I didn't study until the day of, and I had worked a 13 hour shift right before taking both my environmental systems test and then my cell bio test.
HolycrapI'mawesome.
Uhhhhhhhhhh....life is sincerely kicking my butt these days. After I finished work Thursday morning around 8, did my petsitting rounds, and committed to skipping my business class by emailing my professor, I slept from around 10am Thursday to 8am this morning. I did wake up briefly to do my evening petsitting rounds and a small amount of homework, plus eat some dinner. But basically I needed to sleep a long time just to feel awake and alive this morning.
MY SOAPBOX FOR THE MONTH:
Have a stray cat in your neighborhood, or maybe aren't able to afford to spay or neuter your own cat? Make it your new year's resolution to do your part to reduce the homeless pet population. For around 30-40 dollars you can spay or neuter a cat you know using http://www.oregonspayneuter.org/ (or a similar program in other states).
Think about it-if you get Starbucks twice a week for 5 weeks, that can add up to about 40 bucks. On the other hand, say you have one intact male cat and one intact female cat. After only 2 years of unchecked breeding, you can easily have over 100 cats. Their population grows exponentially, and cats can start breeding as young as 6 months. Oh, and they aren't shy about inbreeding either. Tomcats aren't picky. Anywhere from 50-70% of cats in shelters are euthanized due to a lack of homes. This INCLUDES KITTENS. Just because they are young doesn't mean they will find a home. Ever had to euthanize a healthy 10 week old kitten? I haven't, thank god, but I've seen it done and it BREAKS MY HEART. By not fixing your cat, you are choosing to kill kittens. There, I said it.
So please, make ending pet overpopulation part of your New Year's resolution. Even spaying one cat makes a difference.
If you are in Oregon and need your cat spayed or neutered, and can't afford the 30-40 dollars necessary to make this happen-email me! I can help.
