Well nothing yet on the job...government is soooo slow about getting things done!! Funny coming from a government employee huh?
Actually about +8 F...yes I had to put the plus sign. It has been -30 F or better most of November. Which is not a bad thing...it will run those CA wanna be's back to where they came from. If I sound like an elitest then please forgive me. I have lived here all my life and I have seen people come and go but when they bring their shopping malls and their starbucks up and put them in my backyard then I tend to get a little cranky. I live here for a reason...I love not have garrish neon signs when I go to town...I love that Alaska has a law against billboards...I love that we can still subsistence hunt here...and when some granola cruncher from Anchorage (via CA, WA or OR) tells me that we can't hunt anymore I get a little perturbed.
Sorry just on a roll I guess.
Well we are putting up the Christmas tree today. It's strange this year with only the youngest home. My oldest girl just got engaged a couple weeks ago to a very good man. He is joining the Marines as soon as he graduates and I couldn't be prouder of him. She is doing well in the Air National Guard and will be eligible for E-4 soon. Which will just goad my son who is also an E-4 in the Air Force, although active duty.
My youngest seems to love the fact that mom and dad are paying all the attention to her. She just joined the Army reserves and will go to Basic this summer. So we will truly have an empty nest this summer. A preview of what is to come soon.
May 19th is the date that the kids have picked well for now anyway. It seems strange that Christmas will be much quieter now that the kids are gone. It will be weird after having five of us rolling around here for almost 20 years.
Michelle is trying to take a school for transcription so she can work from home. She is vested in her union retirement and I told her that all she has to do to keep getting credit is to work 250 hours a years and pay her yearly dues and it will continue to count towards retirement. She was actually talking about trying to get a job on the slope and see if she could get some higher wages there. I told her to go for it...we could pay off bills faster and when she got home she would have two weeks off.
I am not sure whether she is going to do it or not but we'll see.
I am trying to get an investigator job in Anchorage...but again we are waiting on the government to get off it's ass and get my backgournd check done and some other things.
As I said last time we moved into a house, we are still renting but it is a real house....with real heating bills...sheeeiiit almighty! Nice three car garage too, which means that the wear and tear on the cars will be less this year. It's rough on the cars to crank it up at -30 or -40 even if it is plugged in.
Well I am starting to ramble and that is a good sign that I need to shut up. Need to go get another cup of coffee.
See ya.

I recall one week at Prudhoe the temp was -50 to -60 then one day was like -20, I too though a heat wave had hit. What was the coldest ever recorded in Delta? I have nothing but good memories of Alaska. Hope you and the lady have a wonderful Christmas and the new job will soon be a reality.
