So, after having cut (and stolen) from all over this province The 'Province of British Columbia' gov't is announcing with jubilation that they predict a BILLION dollar Surplus! (Largely ripped from Ministry Children and Families)
Right now the Province is asking for direction from the public about where to reinvest.
This gov't has enhanced the loss of supports to those least likely to join the workforce (ie. children and adults with developmental disabilities). They've also taken a lot away from seniors but, as we know, the voices of seniors can be loud and defensive, right?
So there's a select standing committee on finance travelling around BC right now holding public hearings. There's also an online survey and they're taking written submissions too. This committee will produce a public report by November 15th that will guide the 'reinvestment' of public funds next year.
If you are living in BC (that is, living as in alive and not apathetic), I dare you to have your say.

To schedule a presentation one of the remaining hearings you can call the Office of Clerk of Committees at 1-877-428-8337

Oct. 6 Victoria 9am - 1pm
Oct. 8 Nanaimo 8am - 11
Oct. 8 Duncan 3pm - 5:00 p.m.
Oct. 13 Chilliwack 11am - 2pm
Oct. 13 Langley 5pm - 8pm
Oct. 14 Vancouver 1 6:00 p.m.
The public hearing in Prince George should have just wrapped up.
...and to e-mail a funding directions to the BC gov't financecommittee@leg.bc.ca
I personally want funding directed to Community Living Services (to adults with developmental disabilities), to Early Childhood Education and Care Services, and to ongoing community supports for brain injury survivors. Shouting about waitlists sure has seemed to work for our senior population too.
