Long journal update ahead. Consider yourself warned.
Before I say anything, I would just like to make a short public service announcement: when consumed in large quantities, dark beer (like reds or stouts) do things to your digestive system that just do not happen when you drink wimpy pale ales and lagers. (read: Mary had a rough night and an even rougher monring )
I went drinking the last two nights in a row, which is pretty unusual for me, particularly since my bf gave up the bottle completely after our last New Year's party. Anyway, as a result of the last two evening's outings, I became privy to information which has made me think, the world is just a really fucked up place.
One of my good friends (and former roommate) is apparently in the midst of a mental breakdown of some sort. We hadn't seen each other a whole lot since we stopped living together, but I heard through the grapevine that his gf broke up with him a few weeks ago and he's kinda gone off the deep end as a result. He left Fredericton and moved back to his hometown to live with his parents until he gets straightened out... he's seeing a shrink several times a week from what I hear. He seems fine whenever I see him, but he's usually all drunk and silly when we run into each other.
Last night I went out because another friend of mine is moving to Vancouver this week, so we did this loosely organized "Prospect Street pub crawl" where we hit all these awful bars uptown that nobody goes to. Anyway, she said that she and her bf broke up a few days ago, which came as a complete shock since they'd been together for a couple of years at least and they always seemed really happy together. Apparently his roommate told her that he'd been bringing other girls home on occasion... he denied most of it , but he admitted to enough stuff that she told him where to stick it in no uncertain terms. She seems okay, though. She's moving and everything, so I guess it's a good way to get over that kind of thing. I just can't get over the fact that they broke up at all... there's a lot of weird stuff happening lately within my extended group of aquaintances (read: the local indie/punk/emo crowd)... people are breaking up, getting married, moving away, going crazy, buying houses, trying to get pregnant... it's madness!
Question: Do people go on "pub crawls" in other parts of the world, or is it mainly a Canadian/North American pratice? Have you ever been on one? If not, just tell me a random story of drunken tomfoolery.
Destitute is the New Black!
