Yay Fringe fun!
I'm home again and have just finished yet another shift at work on 4 hours of sleep. What else is new?
Anyway, the Calgary ACTS awards last Saturday went pretty well. We didn't win anything (although one of our friends was part of the Best Ensemble in a Musical), but we performed a scene from Heracles:the Mythologically Accurate Adventures that got a lot of laughs . And I had three martinis and then tried to pin a toga onto an actor. It was surprisingly successful. Although I have learned that, in spite of my fondness for the band, a martini called a Duran Duran (raspberry vodka and amaretto) is DISGUSTING! It was the, "Try this, it's terrible," drink of the evening. And yes, I did read the ingredients first. I like both of them, but apparently never the two should mix. I'm sticking to basic Bonds from now on.
We tore up to Edmonton Sunday morning for three Fringe fun-filled days. I saw a whole mess of plays (Hip-Hop 4 Dummeez, Boy Groove, Gordon's Big Bald Head: Bubonic Playground, Soul Mate, No Entry, Die-Nasty, The Wombats, and Apocalypse Kow all get hearty recommendations) and I got to ask the Kows to perform at the wedding. Yay! I also got to talk to misguided briefly and ran into some of my old students from when I was student-teaching. Even though it was rainy and gross on Tuesday , it was still excellent entertainment. And I got to gawk and Ryan Gladstone again. I'm sure danny_g will tell you the details of that story if you really want to know. My fianc also asked Boy Groove's tech for details about using headset mics in the Fringe, information which may come in handy later.
And best of all, for the first time in two years I DID NOT RUN INTO MY EX! Wicked cool!
Thank you for the birthday greetings, too. Now I am off to nap before rehearsal, after which we will (wince) party like it's my birthday and possibly also (ow) drink Bacardi like it's my birthday. And then I'll go to work again at 5:15 am tomorrow morning. Hence why I must nap now, while I can. Night, night. Or whatever.
