Most seasons in the Great Lakes area are pretty extreme. In summer it's miserably humid and in the winter it's balls cold and it snows like a bastard. In spring, it tends to rain a lot, but it doesn't matter because autumn in the Midwest makes up for the shortcomings of the other three seasons.
It's getting on toward the end of september and the leaves are starting to turn, it's getting cooler too and the air just seems to have that smell. I don't know if it's real or if I just imagine it, but fall seems to have a smell.
This time of year always reminds of high school football games; the smell of nachos roasting in the concession stand, my fingers slightly numb from cold after the third time through the fight song, the sound of the physics teacher's voice through the loudspeaker announcing the game, and other things from those miserable high school years, which I guess really weren't always so miserable.
Ah yes...and now, 10 years later, the days just meld into one yearlong 9 to 5 and before you know it, snow's piled up to the windows and you feel like sleeping for 4 months.
