Yesterday was a seriously fucked up day. I went to work as I normally do for friday, and it was busy as hell- Which is good because more busy equals more tips. We had a new girl in which struck me as a very bad idea, because it was her first day, and she came in at noon, which happens to be the same time the lunch rush hits. She didn't know anything, like where dirty dishes went, how to set the tables, etc., so most of the shift she was just in the way. Then, lunch starts to wind down and the other person does their cashout and leaves, and I get stuck doing a bunch of extra shit work, and when I do my cashout I look at how much I made in tips and it just doesn't make ANY sense.
I had about 25 tables. 6 of those people paid with some form of card (visa, Mastercard, debit) and the total of those bills was $118. Now on the amount in all the tip lines added up, I made 20 and change. Now with the amount of cash payments, the total of the bills was about 330. Now, just going on the cash I had left after paying that, I made 14 bucks, which doesn't make a lick of sense. I know for a fact that no table paid me less than 10% for the tip, and on average it was closer to 20%. So, here's me, with an almost 500$ ringout, bringing home less than six percent. I told my boss this, and told him flat that theres no way I made that little. How could I get so high from 6 bills, and then everyone else pay me so little doesnt make any sense, and then I told him that he should call the other person and find out how much she made in tips, because she had a lower total ringout than me... perhaps she took change from my cash and didnt give me the money she was making change for, but still.
So that pretty much ruined my day right there, then I get home and open an email from my mom, who let me know how my uncle was doing- and according to the doctors, they give him about a week or so to live. I don't really know what else to say but that the news made me pretty sad, just because this was the uncle whose farm I spent a summer at, and who's kids were the cousins that we knew the best. They're younger than me (all adult though) but I can't imagine what it's like for them to be losing their dad in such a shitty way. Then theres his granddaughter, who's only three and won't remember him except through stories people tell her about him.
Went and saw a movie, Ong Bak: The thai warrior. Really enjoyed it, probably the best martial arts flick since Bruce lee. Take the crazy stunts of a Jackie chan flick, add them to the ass-kickery of a Bruce Lee flick, and this is it.

Something I saw today while browsing the paper was this:
Yet another jab from the christian fundamentalist assholes in regards to the same-sex marriage debate. These people make me sick. If I had some way to erase their way of thinking from the pool of human consciousness I would in a heartbeat. A homosexual is a human being. That means they are entitled to human rights. Canada has this wonderful document called the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms . If you want to live in a thocratic nation, then get the fuck out of Canada. And to the American special interest groups who are lobbying Canadian members of parliament to deny same-sex marriage, fuck you and stay the fuck out of the affairs of our country.
Aside: I know that people are entitled to their religious freedoms, but pushing your belief system into the lawbooks is an antiquated notion. I bet you guys are really regretting the age of enlightenment now, aren't you?
These tend to be the same assholes who think that abortion is never justifiable and is murder, but will support going into a pre-emptive war, or do not support legislation that helps poor parents care for their children.
I'm sorry if you are one of the people whose religion is one that promotes fear, hatred and oppression, but you have a choice in what you believe. Remember when you thought that black people weren't really people, or when you though women were no more than property? I believe that you people are vile excuses for human beings, and I think that if your saviour could see you now, he would agree with me.
