NASA spent millions of dollars to solve the problem of getting a pen to work in low-gravity.
The Soviets just used a pencil.
There's something to be said for simplicity. I've been wrestling with various contemplative concepts the last little bit, one of the major ones is how to simplify my life. That notion alone could become a life-long quest in itself. There's something somewhat aescetic in that idea.
It is speculated among many that the words spoken by the first man to set foot on the moon were edited before they were broadcast. Among these people, it is believed that the words "They are watching us" were uttered inside the famous sound bite.
Since when should life be a spectator sport? Even as a participant, there are so many things that drive us to impress the masses, regardless of how we feel about it. In all the universities and colleges in the world, I am certain that there are so many people who are taking the path they are simply because that's what's expected of them, regardless of if they hold any passion for it personally. It's not like I'm not guilty of doing things simply to please others, or giving up something meaningful for the sake of whatever else- and you know, I'm not sure whats worse, doing it just because you don't know anything else/better or being aware of it and still sliding into the pit.
When you look into the sky on a clear night, what do you see? Do you see the infinite of stars just hanging there like the lanterns of a billion lost sailors. Or do you see the blackness, pure and immutable, marred by the flecks of light clinging to it like leeches, knowing that someday, even the brightest among them will fade and will accept the purity of the silent knowing darkness?
You can't fight the Universe, it's a lot bigger than you.

If that is the case, though, then I'm not surprised. I've done my fair share of sinning, I think.
