Today was fight day- I was pretty excited because it was my first competitive fight, so I wasn't 100% sure what to expect.
Showed up and registered and then kinda just hung out a bit with the other folks from my gym who went. They called us up toe weigh in and I creaked in on the scales at 151, so I'd be fighting at the bottom of the weight class (as opposed to fighting everyone smaller than I) The lowest weight class was up first, and the one guy who I spar with on fridays took an unfortunate kick to the face and was knocked out cold- which kind of sucked because he was doing pretty good and could have won the fight otherwise. I didn't do much but try and keep active, and waited for my name to be called to go up. First fight, I took it to the other guy and slammed him with one combination after another, and the fight was stopped because of a leg injury to the other guy (He said he was ok to keep going, and the fist thing I did when the fight resumed was give a cut kick to the wounded leg) Second fight was all about control, I'd just slam the guy with jab/cross combos to the face and then dodging whatever he tossed. The guy lost his composure after getting a bit of a bloody lip, and just threw himself in and got himself a flurry of blows to the face and body with a kick to the gut as a coup de grace for his trouble. The final match was pretty sweet, I'd been watching the other guys fights from before and I knew he'd be a tough number. The fight was pretty much back and forth, what I did with aggression and ring conrtol, he came back with landing a few more kicks. It was a really exhillerating fight, and the only one that I wasn't sure how the judges would go. In the end, I lost to the guy and got the second place trophy, but the head judge told us that he thought it was an impressive fight and it was hard a hard pick. So, for a first time out, I was quite satisfied with my performance, espescially because I was fighting a weight class heigher thanI thought I would be. Plus, seeing how I didn't get any injuries, theres a pool at work I think I'll be collecting come monday (those malicious bastards were betting on what kind of injuries Id come back with)
