Interesting how things sometimes tie together in rather strange coincidental ways- Work on Tuesday held many of the regular doldrumous conversations, and somehow a conversation about Christian based holidays and how a lot were imposed onto times when major pagan holidays occured happened. The last chunk of the conversation happened about easter, and how the term easter actually comes from the name of a fertiity goddess Esther. Fast forward a day to when I was just killing some time with a beer, and I was making small talk with a group of students. We made introductions, and one of their names... Esther. A few of them were from Newfoundland, so we got to talking about accents, and they were spelling words and asking how I'd pronounce it, and for whatever reason I brought up the international phonetic alphabet, I gave a quick extremely basic crash course in it, and bid adieu. Cut to the next morning when I was on the bus half in a daze from having to be up extra early combo'd with being up later than usual. I look up from my reading (The play 'Curse of the starving class' in case you were wondering) and see the person ahead of me studying their notes- notes on phonetics. Part of me is curious if this sting of coincidences is connected somehow, and the same part is even more curious that if they are, if it is leading to something else on a more grandiose scale. OR. I'm just reading too much into things and these particular instances that stood out in my brain for no apparent reason are completely and totally random.
