Earlier today a good friend of mine and I were talking - and she asked me about something I never gave much consideration.
She knows that I've moved 23 times in my life, and being that I'm moving again soon, she asked me if I don't always feel insecure and "rootless" due to so much relocation.
I couldn't really give her a clear cut answer - so - today I've been thinking a lot about security.
What, exactly, is it that makes a person feel.....secure?
Is it your home? All the little idiosyncracies that make it belong to you - you know, like maybe a beat up old coffe table you *should* get rid of, but don't because you're kinda attatched to it?
Is it your relationships? Maybe the fact that you know you can always rely on your significant other to put the cap back on the toothpaste? Or, say, a best friend who you know will always listen patiently and offer conspiratorial words? That you know that your Mom will never fail to tell you what she REALLY thinks about your new pink hair?
Is it having a "regular" place you go, be it a restaurant, a bar, or a resale shop where the people who work there know you?
Having a "hometown" to return to...or that you still live in?
As for myself - I guess I've developed my own little rituals that lend me a feeling of security. I have a specific way I like to arrange all that little stuff I use daily - my purse, my glasses case, whatever book I'm currently reading...
That way pretty much anywhere I am comfortable - and I'm secure.......I think???
So what about you guys? What makes you feel secure?

I do dig travelling some, for work...and seeing some new things, but I'm a hometown girl and I don't think I'll change much in that respect.
Or at least I realize how much I hate the feeling of insecurity. It is second only to feeling foolish. But like you, I'm guess I'm not sure I know what exactly makes me feel secure. I would have said a man ... but I haven't had a decent relationship in over 10 years and I haven't felt too insecure ... mostly more when they ARE around on that one.
I would say money ... but I have none of that.
I have lived in the same city all my life, but I did move a lot so I'm not sure there was much security there.
I used to think it was my family, but then my parents both died and I survived that.
It must be me ... the internal workings that just decide whether or not my perceptions are sane or insane, trust or fear based, etc. Man, that is bad news on some days, I'm sure.
So how was the weekend? Did you sell your house yet?
