You have to wonder why musicians get tangled up with politics at all.
Perhaps it stems from a desire to "make a difference", or maybe it is motivated purely out of arrogance, insecurity and an insatiable need for publicity?
The simple truth is that in musicians statements on politics, they generally end up trivialising the issues, in the process making themselves look foolish and their audience feel patronised.
And how dare they attempt direct the naive youth? Political standpoint is something you need to learn on your own.
Do politics ever have a place in art? Do you think it is worth alienating a fan base to express political or controversial opinions? Would you continue to be a fan or a musician is you did not agree with their politics?
I feel musicians are naturally pretentious. For better or for worse. Just take the stage, shut up and entertain me. It's what you do best.

Entertainers live in their own special world for so long that they begin to think their opinion is somehow better than the average Joe/Jane on the street. It's an easy trap to fall into when everyone around you kisses your ass all the time...
