You step to that edge, just to look around, and start to slip. That's where the danger lies. The scree that falls ahead of you is a distraction. A collection of seemingly insignificant bad decisions lead to this landslide that you never knew you were part of. As the ground shifted under your feet, slowly at first, it was imperceptible. The environment created allowed for, even encouraged the ever growing slide. When the larger pieces become dislodged the very hilltop that you observed from on high suddenly doesn't seem so almighty. Those supporting boulders now tower over in the most menacing way. They don't know that you've been eroding the smaller, seemingly insignificant pieces that they trusted to hold them up; to hold you up.
There is time. This is that time. This is the opportunity to continue down that cascading road, or simply plant your feet against your own movement and be the source of stability. The sands pile up against you, around you. You are now the base of your stability. You now know what's over that edge, and you walk away from it, shaken, bruised, tired and alive.
