Well, I know that I am ready to come home. Hawaii is nice, but my primary indicator has been that the other people participating in the workshop are starting to annoy me. And, as we all know, in any group activity, it only takes one or two to spoil the time for everyone.
There are three colleagues in particular who are driving me nuts.
Colleague 1 is the type who always tries to one-up everyone. He always has extra comments to add to show everyone how smart he is. It's almost to the point where he is trying to get the best of the lecturers that we have. I also get the feeling that he's looking for an argument.
Colleague 2 is, well, just plain crazy. She asks 10,000 questions a day, including a few dozen right before we are supposed to quit for the day. She reminds me of a bird, in that she cocks her head and looks around in a quick, jerkey fasion, like a chicken or pidgeon. She laughs way to loud at her own jokes and asks question that are pointless and/or superfluous. The guy sitting next to her confessed to me after a couple of drinks that he just wants to tell her to shut the fuck up.
Colleague 3, while not abrasive or self-involved, is just WAY to happy to be here and is overly-fascinated with every pointless fact brought forth her way. She reacts to new information with incredibly audible "ooos" and "ahhhs." She also laughs way to loudly. I guess I should admire her enthusiasm, but after 2 1/2 weeks of this, I'm through.
As you can tell, I'm a bit passive aggressive when it comes to this sort of thing. And I'm sure a few of the other folks at this workshop are bitching about me in a similar fashion.
Vive la revolution!
