Wow, I didn't think I would be so busy in Hawaii. For those of you who think I am sitting on the beach drinking Mai tais every day, think again.
Here's a breakdown of my schedule this week:
Monday-Friday: Japanese language lessons, 8;30-9:30 am
Monday: lectures on domestic Japanese politics, 9:30 am-3:00 pm. Observation of Japanese lantern ceremony on Waikiki (this is work, I promise) 5:30-8:00 pm
Tuesday: lectures on international Japanese politics, 9:30-3:00. Lectures and viewing of Anime and manga, 6:30 pm-9:00 pm
Wednesday: Japanese theater, 9:30-12:00, learning the art of Japanese flower arranging, 1:00-3:00
Thursday: Business and Economy in Japan, 9:30-3:00. Japanese film, 6-9pm
Friday: Social issues in Japanese Society, 9:30-12:00.
In the midst of all this, I have to find time to eat and do readings for the next day's lectures. So it's very hectic, and I haven't had a whole lot of time, especially during weekdays, to enjoy Hawaii.
Fortunately, I have Friday afternoon off, so I might actually get to do a little shopping. And this weekend I'll catch up on some rest and drink a few margaritas.
Last weekend I rented a car and did a circle around Oahu. There is some beautiful scenery around here--mountains, beaches, etc., that made the trip very memorable. Next week we go to Pearl Harbor, which I am also looking forward too.
I promise to post pictures. Unfortunatley, I don't have any photo editing programs on my laptop, so everything is going to have to wait until I get back.
Despite my heavy workload, the trip has definitely been worth it to this point, and I already am making evil plans to return next year for a different academic program--hopefully once again paid for by someone else.
Alhoa!
