Tuesday - day 4
Dear diary: I haven't eaten cheese yet today and I've already had two meals!
Glacier 3000 rocked.... For the 4 or 5 runs we were able to fit in. The snow under your board sounds kinda like a baby wookie rather than cap'n'crunch like back home. It was soft fluffy and silky smooth. Then the fog and snow rolled in. I've never seen whiteout conditions like this in my life. I couldn't see 3 feet in front of me. I couldn't even tell where the sky met the ground. And obviously there are no trees on a glacier to help get your bearing. It felt like I was floating on a dead planet, with ghostly figures occassionally appearing out of nowhere and then disappearing just as fast. I was riding completely blind and also didn't take off my headphones. If I did, I woulda heard the baby wookies go away and therefore not end up in thigh deep powder. Even worse, I couldn't find my way back to the groomer. Not a happy snowboarder at this point cuz I was literally drowning. Finally made it back to the tow rope after 10 minutes of trudging through powder, got on, and someone I know fell off in front of me. I saw that he was planning on hitching a ride with me, tried to prepare (I was yelling "don't do it!!" and he did anyway), but then we *both* fell. Total abbot and costello moment. If someone got it on video you'd probably Google it under "dumb american snowboarders". I did however manage to hang on the rope with my arms, so i hung on for dear life as it dragged me on my back for at least 10 poles. He just dejectedly watched as I disappeared into the fog. We called it a day after that, but man that was some funny shit.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but *please* stop snowing!! Nap and shower time. I also have to find Jesus. Jesus has weed. (Yes it's pronounced jesus)
So it's way late here (2 am) and we're considering leaving switzerland and heading to france tomorrow for the remainder of the trip. This is a difficult decision since we're having a good time with the people here, but the conditions for riding aren't looking bright for the rest of the week. Hanging out is great and all, but not if I only get to ride 3 hours a day. The next update could be coming from Chamonix. All depends on what happens in the morning. And this is why I'm glad this trip is long and flexible..
