the problem with winter birthdays? it's motherfreakin freezing out. took a good half hour to get out from under the covers today.

doesn't help that it's monday morning either.

but on the bright side, my birthday signals the midpoint of winter. i dunno about you, but i'm about ready for short shorts and miniskirts. and no, not on me. tongue

thanks all for your birthday wishes...

Woke up to a rainy day and decided to goto the reyjik. Its under construction and was easily the worst museum of the trip. Ok maybe that's a bit harsh but its hard to compare to the previous museums we've seen on this trip. What I did like seeing was the dutch history involving the dutch east india company and its effect on the country....

Today was our first chance to see Amsterdam in the daylight. Its beautiful, tho really grey and gloomy this morning. I love how its able to maintain its charm and uniqueness as a city when everything else seems so commercialized. It still has the feel of an old city. A really really fun old city.

The circular streets and canals kinda confused my human compass...

Only thing that sucks about Amsterdam is the food.

This morning I woke up with a rolaids level hangover emergency. That's a little more urgent than tums, but not quite mylanta level. All I could find was pepsid AC or "pepsidac" as the woman at the french pharmacy called it.

We packed our bags up and got on the metro for Gare de Nord. A ginormous train station nowhere near as nice as grand...

Today was a slow start after last nights stoned drunken socializing. I kept having this dream that I was getting ready, but then I'd wake up still laying in bed. It was like groundhog day only with a massive hangover and not in the least bit funny.

We did manage to make it over to Musee D'Orsay by around 11 and went to a creperie...

HeyJ-

Jealous. As of right now you've definitely made the right choice travel-wise (I know, your breath has been bated awaiting my approval) since your posts from France (which I totally want to visit) en route to Amsterdam (which I totally want to visit) have sounded cool and so far Colorado's winter has been kinda lacking. Not that I haven't had fun on the slopes but I haven't had a day yet that I'd travel for. Unlike your visit last season which you guys lucked out and was powderriffic. Jesus, why am I awake drinking whiskey at 5am?

The sun came back out today, so that makes 3 out of 4 sunny days in paris. Lisa said we've been very lucky as it's usually flat gray skies during winter and its been very rainy recently before we arrived.

Our ordering of food has gotten a lot better. This morning we did it all in french with a waitress who didn't speak english. After...

A buddy I was with tried to take one of the catacomb skulls as a souvenir in his backpack. Totally got caught by the guard by the exit searching bags. biggrin
Musee d'Orsay is one of my favorite museums in the world. Your whole high school art history class is in there.

I'm starting this update late in the day because, well, it was a very interesting one. We got up super early and went to the picasso museum as soon as it opened. It was both inspiring and tiring, but in a good way. I have a lot to think about with what I do as a dorky web guy after seeing his work. Yea that's...

This morning I woke up after 8 hours of wonderful sleep to a bright sunny day! Sleep rules.

Rich and I had oefs for breakie (he's still making me order everything for him since his bad french is even worse than my bad french). We switched to our real hotel, which is located on the border of marais and bastille. A *much* better location than...

I knew you'd love the shopping in the Marais. I think I spent about $2000 in that area. There's a really great bakery and a really cool bar (Les Etages) near the Girbaud store.
