It's 1:00AM - I have slept so very little this week and I expect not to sleep tonight. I have a Wednesday deadline b/c I'm leaving for a well deserved vacation. By then I have to:
1) Finish a giant proposal by Friday
2) Take my grandfather grocery shopping Friday
3) Play Bocce w/ said grandfather on Friday
4) Find a place that rents 40' ladders by Friday
5) Rent and store said 40' ladder (NOT easy to do in a center-city rowhouse)
6) Tar and re-seal my roof on Saturday and Sunday
7) Finish building the deck in my back-yard Sun-Wednesday
8) Pack (by Wednesday)
9) And, maybe if I'm lucky, sleep (yeah, right)
This proposal is kicking my ass. Who says we have tons of free time in academia?
I promised myself I would face my fears and not procrastinate. Look at what I'm doing....writing in a journal. THIS I have no problem with. Stream-of-consciousness is not the most rigorous of mediums - and most of you are kind enough to forgive the eggregious spelling and grammar errors I pepper my journals with. (See! Look! Right there! My participle is dangling!)
But academics....they are the pettiest bunch ever (I ought to know - I do the same thing when I'm in their shoes) when they critique a proposal. I guess now it's my turn to "run the gauntlet."
Find my happy place, find my happy place....
