First of all I want to apologize to aponia, grimjack, mpphoto, quietlythere, malenka, and any others that I've forgotten. I was SUPPOSED to be in Philly for the weekend, and I was supposed to see them - and possibly others - over the next few days. But I can't.
I'm not in Philly because there is an outbreak of some kind of plague that, for the past few weeks, has been shutting down schools and closing companies. Apparently it's a nasty stomach/GI "thing" that takes anywhere from 3-6 days to "pass"....and my parents, brother, and grandmother have all just succumbed to it. Almost everyone I know in Philly has had it, or knows someone who did, and they all say the same thing 1) it's very unpleasant and 2) it's very contagious.
I know I sound a bit like a pussy when I say this but I'm leaving in about 5 days for a month-long road trip for environs West and I simply cannot afford to get sick or carry the plague back to my wife and get her sick. (she can't miss any more of her classes for her MLIS program at Pitt - not even b/c of an illness).
I can handle being called a pussy - but the crappy thing is that this is the SECOND TIME I've had to cancel getting together with this group of people. Over Christmas break I got the flu and had to cancel.....It's like there's a single-celled consortium out there trying to fuck with my social life.
OH, TERRIBLE MICROBIAL FORCES OF NATURE! WHY IS THY NAME "VENGENCE"???!!!
I'm sorry guys. I suck.
I've rescheduled my visit to Philly for July 12th-16th. We'll get together then....that is, if you still want to.
And I really needed to get back home, too. I've been terribly homesick for Philadelphia. I had such a great life back there - interesting friends and neighbors, abundant resources, good food, low cost of living, nice weather. NONE of that exists out where I am. I have my job, my wife, and that's it. I'm the single inhabitant of my own, gloomy, gulag. I must get OUT.
So here's to you, Philly. I guess I'll wait until July to see your distant shores:

The 429 in the caddys is a different engine than the 'vette 429. GM was the master of making dozens of different, yet similar engines for no good reason (witness Chevy, Buick and Olds 350s, the 455 and 454, the Buick 300 V8, the Chevy 302, the caddy 390, 425, 429... the 472 and 500/501 (that were related to the 425/472), even the 229 V6 and 230 V6... the 4.3 Caprice V8, the 4.3 TBI V6 and the 4.3 Vortec V6... the 1.9, 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 and 2.5 4-bangers... the list goes on and on.
Do send me the schedule, it'd be cool to hang out for a bit if scheduling works out.
