Depends on how you feel about IT. A lot of folks have romantic notions about earning a living doing what they love most, but if you love something that has limited commercial opportunities, having to figure out how to grub a meager living from that thing you love doesn't always turn out to be so much fun. There are plenty of great job opportunities in IT - the issue is whether or not you would enjoy working in that field, even if it's not the thing you love most. I would never encourage anyone to do something they dislike for a living - life is too short. But if you enjoy IT, there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing it for a living and using that income to support a serious art avocation.
Can you make a living at the type of art you like? Satisfaction is great, but poverty sucks. Having a backup plan never hurts.
