I spent the weekend crocheting in Philly.
Weird. But you should see my stitches! So consistent and even... Wait. Did I just say that?!
Next weekend will be the same. It's surreal, really, waking up to strains of Bobby Vinton and Engelburt Humperdink (what a name! how could anyone do that to their kid!?) in a room filled with Elvis. Time warp. I have enjoyed myself, to be honest, talking to my grandmother for hours about her life, sorting through old pictures.... She is a remarkable woman and I am so fortunate to have her in my life. A true matriarch, beloved mother of 10, grandmother of 24, great-grandmother of 19 (and counting... ) She has enriched our lives tremendously.
So my grandmother gets stronger every day, thankfully, but my grandfather is clearly dying. He is pretty senile at this point which may be a blessing, given all the physical problems he is having. I suspect he will never again leave the hospital. And my aunt w/ Down syndrome just doesn't understand any of it. I shudder to think of how she will react to either ot their deaths, but especially my grandmother's.
The death part of life can really suck.
My cousin left for Iraq yesterday.
Happy New Year, right?
