since i could scarcely be more lazy, heres part of an old email i sent to a bunch a peeps last year when i moved (briefly) down to san francisco.
whats up y'all? well im finally down here in the East Bay. i had to make 2 trips down here to bring all my stuff--thats down (650 miles) and back to portland (650 miles) then back down here (650 miles) all in 4 days. but on the bright side at least on the third leg of the trip i was driving through a record heat wave without air conditioning, so it wasnt all bad. last thursday it was a buck twelve (thats 112 degrees farenheit to the layperson) in medford, which went along nicely with the choking black smoke that hung in the air from there to ashland and beyond. i ended up on an impromptu crash diet, since i sweated out about 9 gallons. thank goodness my car almost overheated and i couldnt see out any windows to change lanes because of all the crap in my car. that was a godsend. i was afraid the trip wouldnt build any character. dodged a bullet there. not that im complaining, mind you, just telling a story. im getting settled here, but ive noticed an interesting phenomenon here in danville. my 1988 ford escort is both the oldest (by about 6 or 7 years) and the crappiest (by any measure you care to use) car in contra costa (spanish for "you better be rich like mr. howell to live here") county. i think im going to be deported back to oregon if i dont upgrade soon. traffic is heavy, but i kind of like it sometimes. it makes me feel like a racecar driver trying to cut people off at breakneck speed. a guy cut me off the other day with literally about a carlength plus a foot to spare on either end, all while going about 75 miles an hour. ya gotta love these people. i have a job lead, but now that i FINALLY (dont get me started on this foolishness) got my phone/modem line hooked up i can jobhunt online. we went to berkeley today and there was some kinda hippie sidewalk sale going on so we got to see a whole lotta drug paraphernalia. im going to some free concert tonight with peruvian harp music or something. i know what youre thinking..."more peruvian harp music??" thats all you ever hear anymore. yeah, well, what can i tell you?
theres more, but enough already, right?

yeah...it was the boat event that has got me off kilter, as can be expected. I have to be so calm about it in public ya know that i just kinda lost it once i got back to portland. i feel hella better now. but the friend i freaked in front of just doesn't understand these sort of things and well, things with him are just weird now. oh well.
