So lots of super awesome things have happened to me recently.
Starting with the most recent.............
Tomorrow starts the training with the US Census Bureau (if you don't know what the census is you should wiki it and find out because you are retarded... seriously, we learned that in like grade school what the census is lol) and I just got off the phone with my team captain for our area and he just told me we're going to have jobs until October 2010 Hells yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When they called to offer the position they said it's only an 8 week assignment... and now I find out it's going to be ongoing. And then if you stay on the whole time at the end we get to apply for permanent jobs and get priority for having federal jobs SHWEET!!!!!! And when I tested for my position I missed ONE friggin question, and I told him that and he said that'll have a huge impact when I go to apply for perm jobs later Look out awesome future, here I come! LOL!
Secondly, I got offered the job at the spa to go back to doing nails which is flippin awesome too. I made good money when I was doing it. And what's awesome about this place is that I have honestly never felt so appreciated, and welcomed. The place that I applied at back in October or whatever in Rocky River was a bunch of bitches, seriously. Nobody talks shit behind each others back, the one stylist is getting married soon and a few of the other stylists are involved in her wedding. They really are a tight knit group, and I love it. And what I love even more is the mentor I'll have, Irina. I believe she is Russian, and she has an accent that's hard to follow at first, but now that I can talk with her we talk about everything. She is *VERY* good at what she does. Good to the point she can be picky about the new clients she adds, and she ONLY does the higher end services (meaning more commission in her pocket). And she's picky about herself also, she has never had a pedicure from anyone EVER. And guess who gave her a pedicure friday?!?! ME!! She said I am great at what I do, and that I remind her a lot of herself. She doesn't even share her tools & polishes with the other manicurists, but she doesn't mind ME using her stuff because she said I take care of my stuff just like she does hers. Saturday before we left she had me polish her fingers for her, which she has never let anyone else do. To anybody else out there, this probably doesn't seem like a huge deal, but it is for me. Picture your dream career, and meeting someone that is very good at what they do, and then complimenting YOU because you remind them of themselves, and they see you following in their footsteps. It's an amazing feeling, it really is. It is the ultimate compliment to still be considered new to nails (have had my license for 3 1/2 years) and be comparable to someone who has had their license for 20+ years. In her 20 years she has learned tips & tricks along the way, and I already know them in my less than 4 years.
Thirdly, I'm currently in an application process with a company called Backscratchers which is a nail products manufacturer. I sent in my information to be an educator for the company, meaning I'd be able to teach classes locally at salons, beauty schools, tradeshows, etc. I already went through the phone interview, now I'm waiting to hear from the local Cleveland lady who is going to setup a time for me to come to a 2-day seminar which is an interview both ways, and a little training to see how much you are capable of using their products. And then from the seminar it is decided if they want you to join their educator program. If I get accepted I will receive full training & a free kit of products to use which is awesome!
Fourth, I'm super interested in learning permanent/cosmetic makeup. I found a school in Beachwood that offers 3 or 5 day classes, and the price includes a machine which is pretty sweet. And then they take before & after pictures of the models you work on to start your portfolio. And with me working in a spa it's ideal because I can do work on the others I work with and it's like free walking advertisement for me.
So last week I was considering moving to Maple Heights/Bedford area... but now that I know this Census job is going to be around for a while I'm thinking Parma still. There's this studio I'm interested in in Parma Heights, I wanna go drive by it and if I like everything from the outside I'm going to call & ask to see the place.
So yeah, that's pretty much everything that's been going on recently.
Ooooooooooooooh flippin excited for the Dope show May 17th... sucks it's still a month & a half away, but I guess I can wait. I was originally going to drive to the Pittsburgh show this Wednesday, but the Census training is this week and I'd be ridiculously tired the next morning... and considering we had to test to get the Census job in the first place, I'm pretty sure it's safe to say we're going to have to test before they send us out & trust us with the computers.
