So for those of you who don't know, I've been at my job for a little over a year. Previously I was working in residential treatment for kids. Basically, it's a facility that house adolescents for extended periods of time. These are kids that have psychological and behavioral problems. Anyway, I spent nearly ten years in this facility. It was rough and the programming just...

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest it was just about money. Naturally, there's other factors involved. Just that if you have two jobs that kick your ass equally, you may as well get paid as much as you can. Of course, it makes more sense to get paid less for the "right" job than getting paid a fortune for a job that makes you miserable.
lonewolfd:
I didn't think you were suggesting that, Siv. And I do agree...if it was a straight trade off to go from Cleo (the old job) to this new job, that would be a no brainer. However, the job in between, my current one, is not working with kids, just psychotic adults. I've been with them for about a year and three months and there's been one assault and physical management that I've been involved with since then. Working with kids, it would be twenty times that number...minimum. So yeah, the one in between isn't terrible...the pay isn't bad, they're just having their own internal issues...nothing that really directly affecting me.

So thanks to my favorite band, I've discovered this group that I'm really starting to dig. Here are Heathen Apostles.

For everyone following along in my read-along-blog, I did end up asking that nurse out. My timing is terrible, of course, but I knew it would never be good. I may not speak to her ever again. Hadn't heard from her for a week and I didn't bother her. Texted her earlier, got the response I expected. It's never a simple no. Today, or perhaps...

If you quit now it'll make it seem like she was right to make assumptions about you, so I think it's a great idea for you to re-establish your friendship with her (especially since you're being sincere on that front).
lonewolfd:
Thanks. Actually I just texted her a few days ago to let her know that there were nursing positions open, since she had actually wanted to work there. She ended up responding to me and was friendly again, she apologized, I apologized, so it looks like were good again.

So here's a couple of songs from what's been on repeat in my car stereo for a week now. It's a good album...helped me get out of my head for a while.

Ever spend too much time in your own head? I've definitely been spending way too much time up there recently. And trust me, it's a weird and desolate place. When I woke up yesterday, I actually came out for a while and I actually felt pretty good for a change. I haven't sunk back in too much lately, but hopefully I'll feel as good tonight....

I spend a lot of time in my own head too. I tend to get lost in conversation with all the voices in there =p
lonewolfd:
I'm glad I'm not the only one that happens to. The arguments I have up there are a little obnoxious though.

I'm 33...and this terrible with girls...lame, I know. So I just spent a lovely evening with a beautiful young lady. We had dinner, then went back to her place and played chess. I know, wild and crazy, right?

So here's the deal with her. I met her at work, she's a nurse not actually employed with my facility, but part of an agency that fills...

Yeah, the kicker is that we had something like an hour long conversation on the phone the day before and everything seemed to be going really well, so the whole rejection thing really seemed to come out of nowhere.
lonewolfd:
Wow, that's pretty shitty. It may not make it feel any better, but something tells me you dodged a bullet with someone like that. This girl from a decade ago was fairly upfront about how she felt about people being nice to her, but I kept hanging out with her and being me, so I'm sure the door slamming in my face was coming. Not for a good reason, but it was coming. I was still in college and in my 20's all before the real world hit. Back when I thought just being the good guy, the knight in shining armor, with a certain amount of patient persistence could get me the girl. These days I'm more of the anti-hero, my armor's a bit rusty, but I think the patience is still there. And I'm okay with where I am now. The nurse and I had breakfast together a little while back...the first time we hung out together outside of work. That's when I first really got to know her better. She has a delightful personality and her since of humor is much like mine.

So one of my best friends signed my up for a year of LootCrate for missed birthdays and Christmases. This is my first one. It's awesome. That shirt is awesome and I'm gonna wear the hell out of it.

So I've been working in residential treatment for kids for nearly ten years. Every year it's just gotten worse. I'm grateful for their over nice years of employment, but it's time to go. I got a new job and I hope it's gonna be good.

Still going good?
lonewolfd:
Yeah, things are kind of in a state of chaos because of a new program we opened up, and the managers are a little insane, but other than that, it's going pretty well. Thanks. :)
