Today I visited my friend in a psychiatric hospital. It was both nice and terrible. First of all, she had gotten at some broken glass and was covered in cuts, but it was nice to see her. I spent about two hours with her.
The funny part was that I wore my ninja costume, and I managed to accidentally sneak into her unit without being checked by security. And when security did check me after I got into the unit and they realized their mistake, they only looked at the bag of chocolates I brought for my friend. They didn't even glance at anything else I had brought with me.
While I was in the ward, I started to feel a little bit like I was there for myself. It brought back some uncomfortable memories, and I felt trapped in the sense that I had to tolerate the crazy people around me, and I would have to ask permission of the staff to do anything. I was happy to leave in a way. I did promise my friend I would visit her again in a week or two.

It was a really nice thing that you did for your friend. There are probably people that have shied away from her because of her illness.
It helps to know that you're in my corner.
