Today, however, something happened that I need to write down for posterity's sake - if only briefly...
So, about 2 1/2 months ago, I landed a job working for the Federal Government. Today, I got called up to Human Resources. I was worried, because my security background check questionnaire was WAY overdue! But when I got there, instead of firing me - they offered me two other positions, and asked me to pick one!!!
Believe it or not, that wasn't the highlight of my day...
On my way home, Bears called - she got a promotion too! What in the hell are the odds of that!?!? It's like lightning striking twice or something!
Also, the head of HR wants me to give a talk to the new hires about benefits and insurance. I think this has something to do with my promotion. Yes, I applied for the two positions they offered me, but I never heard anything about them after that. I know that some of my peers have been interviewing for various positions lately, and there have been a lot of outside interviewees too, but they never called me in for one - I was getting pissed off. Then, out of the blue, they just offer me the positions!!! Just like that - no interviews, no questions, no nothing - they just offered me the job. Weird, huh?
But I was thinking about it some...
During employee orientation, shortly after I and many others got hired, someone asked a question about life insurance that the HR department head that was giving the talk couldn't answer. Being a licensed insurance agent, I was able to field the question (and several others) with ease. I think it might have created a buzz. I know that I got an employee recognition award from someone who was there, and when the HR head offered me the job, he mentioned that fact. That's also when he asked me if I was still interested in giving a talk at the next orientation. For this reason, I think these things are probably related.
As for Bears, I guess when it rains it pours!
Naturally, the first person I called was LoveBug. She's in New York City though, and I haven't heard from her yet. I hope she throws me a bone and gives me a congratulatory call - that would just make this day absolutely perfect...
Well, unfortunately, Bears is with her Coven tonight doing her 'witchy' thing, do I'm all alone. Guess I'll try to spend it with my SG friends instead - but first, now that I'm getting paid like $300 a week more, I can finally take my entire closet to the dry cleaners. Gotta get there before they close!
