I realized recently I haven't been reading anything like the amount I used to so I've been picking up a lot more books lately. This is a good thing as lately all my reading had been non-fiction about world travel and lifestyle management.. two things that greatly interest me.. oh and on poker as well. So in the spirit of branching out I've been gravitating towards other topics ..
I just finished the first novel I've read in (for me) far too long.. Hillary Raphael's punchy little book "I *heart* Lord Buddha" about a neo-Buddhist nihilist feminist Japanese hostessing cult.. quite entertaining, slightly experimenting.. and full of some of the lovely weirdness that I always enjoy. In the realms of the novel I've since moved on to Fumiko Enchi's "Masks" - a small modern classic - and since I have a minor obsession with masks, quite enjoyable. Can't wait until I get my new neutral mask next week. Next on the list of novels is
Houellebecq's "the Elementary Particles." Can't wait.
I have a date to go to the botanical gardens tomorrow which will also offer an opportunity for me to pick up some materials for a new obsession of mine - bonzai. Who needs children when you can have a carefully groomed pluperfect miniature tree? Fuck you miniature animals - sensuous botany is the way to go. I have a few books on bonzai from the library currently - I'll post some pictures once my tree is planted. Exciting. I'm considering really getting into orchids too, but I figure I'll take it one step at a time.
Aside from trees and puppets, I also have a book on order about midori - a how to for very pretty Japanese rope bondage. Maybe boy scout knot knowledge will come in handy for once in my life.
Last night the Zak and I went dancing so hard she might have to have her foot amputated. You know those versions they always do of things like "Young X-men" or "Young Archies" where it's like the 12 year old versions of all the characters? Well Zak got hit on by a guy who looked like he was in that comically young version of the Ramones, except he had a tuque.
I also had a fantastic cheese tortellini in a roasted red pepper cheese bechamel sauce with mushrooms that I made for dinner last night. So tasty. My roommate was impressed I knew how to make a roux.. she couldn't believe I was making a sauce from scratch.
That's all for now, what news have you?

i still appreciate 'em and all, but these days i think plants are beautiful and interesting enough without having to miniaturize and sculpt them.
mmm roasted red peppers. i always liked 'em best with a lemon/white wine based sauce, though, say, with lots of basil and parsley. and clams! oh, i've been craving clams so bad lately, all i can find for sale around here are farm-raised.
