Okay. So the weekend has been pretty fucking fantastic. Kick things off with the singular, the legendary, the only diva of our time - Bjork.
She played the quays on the old port friday night and blew our respective minds. Not only did she have a 9 piece Icelandic horn section (!), the drummer from Sonic Youth, she turned the tracks from her new album luscious and rococco and played some old favorites. She was wearing this nymph outfit with golden tights (so hot!), shot spiderwebs from her hands, had giant flames onstage, laser light shows, confetti and all that jazz. Her voice is .. magic. Only a handful of vocalists have been able to hit me on such a visceral level (Antony, Diamanda Galas, Amy Denio). All I can say is wow. Kali was there too.
Then I hit the hay instead of going dancing, as I'm recovering from a bout with the flu. Saturday morning I got up and whipped my way over to La Ronde with my ex.. La Ronde is Montreal's own Six Flags theme park. We hit all the big coasters - most notably the Goliath - a blue, yellow and red giant that takes you out of the park on a 3 minute ride at 110 km/h. It's incredibly high too so you get this amazing view, before a momentary feeling of weightlessness and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! Other's include le Monstre - world's highest double wooden roller coaster - the rickety clanking of the track is almost enough to scare you and Le Vampire - where your feet dangle upside down and you fly around in dizzying loops. I hadn't been on a roller coaster for a long time and I forget the vaguely post-sexual adrenalin rush and endorphin boost you get after getting off of one of those things.
Then I took a brief snooze at home (and changed clothes - I was soaked from a water coaster) and then headed off to the Devendra Banhart concert. I expected it to be pretty folky and subdued but Banhart really rocked out with his band and played for a full 2 hours. At one point he invited an audience member onto the stage to play a song (totally randomly) and the guy played and was amazing. That and Bjork may be my 2 favorite shows of the year.
One vernissage, one 3D glasses Oprah mask and one secret friperie party later I was home.. and exhausted. But I was too pumped up to sleep, so I watched the newest episode of the IT Crowd (I need more Californication - it's like a drug!) and chatted with Ophelie, and helped her find something she was looking for. She thinks I should write a sex blog. Haha.
