Notice: I am leaving town this afternoon and will not be back until early Wednesday evening. So unless my coeditor, thesleepthief, shows up, the politics section of the newswire will not be updated or edited until I return.
So yeah, I'm off to go skiing in Vermont for the next few days, which I'm very much looking forward to. Three days of skiing, and relaxing in the lodge. It will be good preparation for my ski trip to Austria in March, as well.
Last night was loads of fun. I went to see SG Burlesque at the knitting factory. The show was a trip, the girls looked great and lots of people ended up getting covered in chocolate sauce by the end. The pre-burlesque dinner went off really well, too, just about everyone showed up who said they were coming, and I had a chance to meet a whole bunch of new folks and discuss the political and biological feasibility of creating an entire world of only women with tastysoup, as suggested in Valeria Solanis' SCUM manifesto. An interesting, if slightly disturbing thought experiment.
Thanks to Skryche and Vyeseleph for hosting the after-party too (and special thanks to LX for taking me and tastysoup out to breakfast at 4AM.) The party was really fun, as always, and I had too much to drink, as usual. I distinctly remember saying at some point during the night "If Debrajean is a virgin that could be considered by some to be a crime against humanity." Highbrow conversation, to be sure. I got to see so many cool people and meet a whole bunch of new ones, and was trying to remember everyone while I was in the shower after I got up today. I won't try and list them all, suffice to say you know who you are, and you rock. I'm afraid of listing a whole bunch of people and forgetting to include someone, and we all know that scenario ends with me being kidnapped and hog-tied to a chair, in some cold and dank basement out in a desolate part of Long Island, with various needles stuck in body parts and an ongoing discussion about the slowest and most gruesome way to finish me off. So let's just not go there in the first place.
I got my grant supplement sent off yesterday, and I believe it was the first time in the history of my lab that anything has been sent to the NIH before the deadline. I'm very pleased with myself.
I'm also trying desperately to keep up with the politics section of the newswire, but running it by myself has become a serious time drain. I average about 30-40 minutes per article (I try and research them as well as I can) and I just don't have that much time in the day to keep writing everything. So thesleepthief, if you're out there, I could use some help. If you're not out there, I could use a new coeditor who will.
I'd also like to apologize for not responding to everyone's comments in my journal - I've been awfully busy lately and unfortunately haven't been able to write back or comment as often as I would like. When I get back from Vermont on Wednesday, though, I'll have some more free time to do that.
So I have about 4 hours to continue fighting off this (rather nasty) hangover, get my shit packed for the trip and get another 4 or 5 articles written and submitted before I leave (as well as take care of some other menial crap.) But have a great week everyone, and I'll talk to you all more when I get back.
And submit articles to the politics section.
