Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on here.
Someone actually was nice enough to pay to reactivate my account. Otherwise, in all honesty, I probably wouldn't be around.
So, a lot's happened since the last time I was on (which apparently was about a year and a half ago.)
I no longer live in England. While I was working at Cambridge I got recruited by a pharmaceutical company to come work in Belgium. So last summer I moved to Brussels, and have been living there and working just outside Brussels in Braine l'Alleud ever since.
It's OK. The job has its ups and downs (more downs than ups lately) but there are some significant perks over academia - like being able to comfortably afford my own place for a change.
Belgium isn't bad. It has better food than the UK and much, much nicer places to live. Brussels at least isn't the easiest place to meet people, unfortunately, so I haven't had a particularly exciting social life. And Belgians, for the most part, tend to keep to themselves - I guess since their country has been completely overrun with expats, so they don't seem too excited to meet new people or hang out.
So who knows. I have no idea how long I'm going to stay here (my contract goes indefinitely) - at this rate I feel like I could move pretty much anywhere else in the world and I wouldn't really mind.
But I'm back here, at least for a bit.
